Hi Tony,
Not only have we seen this before...we've seen it a
thousand times!  X is like a gateway drug
though...pretty soon, you're hooked on *nix.

Heres your checklist:

1)  run X server on your windows box
2)  ssh over to the *nix box (you may need to enable
ssh X port forwarding if there is a firewall...see
your ssh client HELP section..usually "-X" at command
line or a checkbox somewhere)
3)  check that $DISPLAY points back to your win box
4)  run a test app like xclock...does it show up on
win box?
5)  run your other app (whatever it is)

You can ignore the *font* messages...fonts are stored
in files, and your X application is telling you that
your font path is wacky...so what?  there are fonts
built-in that work fine.

check and doublecheck your $DISPLAY variable.  This
