[buug] GnuPG interface?

For the first time, I tried to use an interface (gpa) to do the
signing last night.  I was dismayed to find it didn't work (Debian bug
#181936).  I think it has to do something with an command
incompatibility between GnuPG 1.0.x and 1.2.x (I remember I had to
upgrade mailcrypt after that change, too).

What, if anything, do people use, and does it work with 1.2?
