I cannot find a users group but I know the High Performance Computer Center is there and there is a Maui Scheduler so I assume someone on the island is using it. I would be interested to know if there are enough people to do some meetings or get togethers. Also: HP server PII Vectra Vl box. Cant get FreeBSD 6.* to install on this type of box. Tried several different CDroms but just get a flashing - at the top of the screen and no install. Any ideas? I have 2 NT servers to make into FreeBSD 6*. I set the cmos to see the CDrom first and then HD for install. I have debian sarge installed on my PC but when I try to install Free BSD version 6.0 release, its completely different from debian. It's not easy to install Free BSD. I try PCBSD now and it just like installing windows :). Why Free BSD is not make a project to make sysinstall like PCBSD installer? I think it's going to be easy for Windows users to try Free BSD in the future. Thanks. Indra Muliadi __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Besides, if you understand basic things like partitioning, sysinstall is easy. #2 The orignal goal of FreeBSD was never to attract windows users. #3 if you like PC-BSD, by all means use it! it is designed specifically for desktop users converting from windows, and it has an interesting package management system. tato From webmaster at hawaiidakine.com Sun Dec 11 11:28:50 2005 From: webmaster at hawaiidakine.com (Al Plant) Date: Sun, 11 Dec 2005 09:28:50 -1000 Subject: [buug] Adding a SATA HD to FreeBSD Message-ID: <439C7DF2.9020300@hawaiidakine.com> Has anybody installed a SATA drive on FreeBSD for a webserver ? I have the drive, but it does not come with a flat cable to attach to the Motherboard. There is a serial cable for power, but neither of the Motherboards have that facility. I see you can use a 4 pin power though instead. The drive is a Maxtor 200 GB Sata Ultra series 7200 RPM Serial ATA/150. I know a PCI card is required from Promise, but I an not positive which one. I am not familiar with this type of setup and the How To's that come with the drive are not clear about the hookup. Any help is appreciated.
